Hate the way your brand new car looks because of some weird scratches on the surface? Want to get rid of them such that they never come back? If you answered yes, this guide is your holy grail. Read on to find all about swirl marks, how you can prevent them from damaging your new vehicle, whether or not you need a car paint protection, and how you can remove them quickly.

What Are Swirl Marks?

Swirl marks are micro-scratches on the surface of your car that pile up to form a spider-like scratch pattern when viewed under direct light. They aren’t necessarily deep scratch marks, but they appear that way because of their spider-web-like appearance.

Swirl marks are much more apparent on darker cars as compared to lighter ones. But in either case, they prove detrimental to both your car’s appearance and life.

They are usually only around 2-4 microns deep and remain limited to only the top layer of the car paint. But this depth is enough to catch dirt and debris and make your car look shabby and old.  In cars with car exterior protection, swirl marks don’t become easily apparent.

What Causes Swirl Marks?

Swirl marks most commonly result from improper washing. Even though swirl marks become the most apparent when put under direct light, light is definitely not the reason they occur.

Many people prefer automated car washes to get their vehicle shiny. But often, such car wash professionals use dirty, used brushes on your car. The grit and dirt from these brushes can cause friction and result in swirl marks.

what causes swirl marks

Even if you wash your car at home, you can make it prone to swirl marks if you aren’t careful. Using a harsh brush, not washing off the suds frequently, and using a lot of force in a circular motion while wiping can all be the reasons for your car to develop swirl marks.

How to Prevent Swirl Marks?

There are a range of ways to ensure that your car does not get any swirl marks even after a long time of usage. Some of these tips include:

  • Use a good quality exterior paint protection film on your car. Car paint protection solutions from reputed brands like Permagard are excellent in keeping swirl marks at bay.
  • Do not take your car for frequent automated washes.

While washing your car at home, ensure that you use a soft microfiber cloth and a non-abrasive cleaning solution. Even if your car has sufficient car exterior protection applied, being gentle while washing is always a good tip.

Here is the correct way of washing your car:

1. Perform a Pre-Wash

The prewash is the procedure where your rinse off all the dirt and dust from your car. You can easily do a pre-wash by using a pressure washing machine and some gentle cleaner.

2. Contact Wash

Contact wash is another stage of car washing wherein you have to be super careful while wiping and rinsing your vehicle. Use a product like Permagard’s car shampoo for effective cleaning and no damage to your car’s paint or paint protection film. Permagard shampoo has a high-suds formula and no harsh chemicals – meaning you can be tension-free while contact washing your vehicle.

3. Use the Right Motion

Try to avoid circular wiping motion while cleaning your car. Instead, go in straight lines wherever possible. Also, start with the cleanest areas of your car first, and then proceed to the dirtier ones. This will ensure minimal dirt transfer between two different parts of your car, and therefore prevent scratching.

4. Use Two or More Buckets

Swirl marks can occur as a result of your car paint being scratched by grime and dirt as you wash it. To completely avoid such a situation, you must use two-three buckets of water while washing your car. One should strictly be for the dirty mitt, while the other two should have clean water to be used for washing off the suds.

These tips can ensure that your car stays looking new and free of swirl marks. But what if your car already has them? Keep reading to know what to do.

Process to Remove Swirl Marks From Car Paint

Here are some steps you should follow if you want those annoying swirl marks to vanish from your car.

  • It’s always best to get your car’s swirl marks removed by a car detailing professional. Do not attempt to do it on your own, or you might end up further damaging your car’s shine, finish, and appearance.
  • To remove those stubborn swirl marks from your car, you’ll have to use an abrasive substance. Since swirl marks are inflicted only on the top layers of your car paint, this abrasive needs to be strong enough to remove just the top layers of your car’s paint, including any car paint protection layers.
  • Once the abrasive removes the top layer, it simply levels the paint to the deeper layer of your car’s paint that hasn’t been inflicted with swirl marks.
  • Since the abrasive substance removes swirl marks by removing the top layer of your car paint, it is essential to have a thick layer of paint, to begin with. Typically, single-stage paintwork is 40-50 microns thick, and with additional car paint protection, it becomes 70-80 microns.
  • Remember to not have this procedure done on your car frequently; otherwise, your car’s paint layer will become very thin and lose its shiny appearance.

Conclusion

Now that you know everything about swirl marks, you can quickly take your car to the right car detailing professional to have them removed. Also, you can take the suitable precautions to prevent them from occurring in the future. Just make sure you use the proper car exterior protection and maintain your car well. You can permanently say goodbye to those swirl marks!

A paint coating is the second layer of paint for the car. It is a kind of secondary coat that is applied to the existing paint coat. A car paint coating forms a harder and stronger bond.

Currently, different car coatings prevail in the market. The most popular ones are glass and ceramic. The glass and ceramic coating can block all kinds of foreign matter and prevent the car from damage. They protect the car from scratches, dirt, and chemical contaminants.

Another type of coating is Teflon coating that is a paint protection coating. It ensures the car paint’s longevity by providing a protective layer over the color and giving more shine and gloss. It also prevents paint corrosion or wear and tear in extreme weather conditions.

Do you know a coat lasts from 12-24 months, but a regular wax lasts only 1-4 months?

However, one of the premier solutions for protecting car paint is Reactive Polymer Technology by Permagard that offers exclusive services. The blog contains detailed insight into the technology and its benefits. Here we go!

What is Reactive Polymer Technology?

Permagard coatings contain polar amines that give a positive charge to the coatings. The charge is attracted to substrates that are negatively charged, found in paint.

The bond between these opposing charges is so strong that once applied and given time to cure, Permagard’s coating penetrates the porous surfaces of the substrate, effectively becoming an integrated part of the painted surface.

The reaction by hydrolysis provides for cross-linking to form a water repellent polymer coating anchored into the pores of the paint.

It is this molecular relationship that gives PERMAGARD coatings their durability and strength. Due to the bond, the coating will remain on the substrate till the substrate remains on the surface on which it was applied. PERMAGARD coatings will never peel or crack off paint, unlike other brands.

Benefits of Reactive Polymer Technology

  • Cost-effective – Reactive Polymer coating is durable and long-lasting. It is sturdy and comes in use for a longer time without facing external atmospheric and physical issues. It reduces the time that you invest in maintenance and repaint need from time to time.
  • Resistant – The coating with reactive polymers is resistant to chemicals and lesser prone to erosion and corrosion. It can withstand the harshest environmental attacks and chemicals. It forms a protective coating layer over the car’s surface coating and maintains the gloss and shine.
  • No finishing efforts required – Permagard’s Reactive Polymer coating has a natural corrosion-resistant technology that does not demand special finishing efforts. It happens before the machining process to eliminate the post-treatment requirement after the final product has appeared.
  • Lightweight – Permagard’s Reactive Polymer coating is lightweight than a majority of the metals. It is easier to use and versatile.

Permagard’s reactive coating is applied using an oscillating or buff-like machine on the car’s painted surface. It fills in the paint’s pores and creates a flat and uniform texture.

Permagard Patented Technology

Permagard’s patented advanced Reactive Polymer Technology is designed to provide exterior paint protection to the cars. It is a proven technology for protecting the vehicle from airborne pollutants and other threats.

Permagard’s unique patented technology creates a protective barrier that works to neutralize and prevent airborne contaminants.

These are mostly bird droppings, insects, and road grime. The high-grade aviation coatings provide an economic value to your car, be it a new one or a used one. The formula is made up of biodegradable components that are environmentally safe that keeps the car stain and dirt-free. It makes it hydrophobic that is not harmful to the skin.

Why Use Reactive Polymer Technology?

Permagard’s innovative technology offers hassle-free maintenance of the vehicle’s coated surfaces. It promises to last for a longer time and maintains the same finish in between washes.

You only need to wipe down quickly using a damp cloth to enhance the car’s shimmering glaze. Reactive Polymer Technology is unique as it is created with environmentally safe products that are harmless to use.

The materials are tested in well-equipped and trustworthy labs. The advanced corrosion-resistant feature is exceptional that protects the vehicle from adverse climates and pollutants.

Conclusion

Permagard’s Reactive coating is the best coating that provides protection to the car paint. The top-quality materials, long lasting and easier to use features makes the coat economical to use. The coating is recyclable and useful so it is always favourable to use the coating on your car.

Want to opt for car rejuvenation after this long pandemic? Tired of the smell in your car? We will guide you with 6 awesome tips on how to wipe the shabby off your car’s interior, whether you are trying to sell it or just want to freshen up your daily driving after a long lockdown.

It’s not difficult or expensive, and you’ll be surprised at how new your car’s interior looks. However, no classic car restoration job would be complete without a full interior restoration. The sun’s UV rays and the car’s age take their toll on the dashboard, stitching, headliner, and carpets, making this a difficult job in itself.

Matching the original interior colours and materials, as well as repairing vacuum systems, circuits, wiring, and buttons for power accessories, is a great task. It also benefits in making a good social impression, such as when going on dates or driving to a job interview.

Did you know you must clean and rejuvenate your car’s interior once a month to keep it fresh and presentable? Most people do not look after their car’s interior and that’s why we have come up with some easy and useful tips.

To that end, we have put together a list of useful tips for completing a high-quality car restoration and interior rejuvenation

Handy tips for car rejuvenation

1. Start with trash cleaning:

You have to pick up all of the huge pieces of trash that the vacuum cleaner would not pick up in a plastic grocery bag. Then remove the junk between the front seats, the empty fries bag from the back seats, and the water bottle underneath the driver’s seat.

To ensure that you do not miss anything, move the seats forward, search below, and pull out the floor mats. Unfortunately, your car has become the breeding ground for germs due to all this trash. Worry not, with Permagard’s anti-microbial shield, which will kill 99.99% of germs within seconds.

anti microbial shield

Do you know if your car is not disinfected properly, it can spread Covid-19? In the surge of the pandemic, you can use Parmagard’s anti-microbial shield as it acts as a disinfectant and prevents the growth of viruses and bacteria.

2. Then comes carpet cleaning:

The best place to start is on the floor. It can take a long time and a lot of effort to get it back in shape, so do it first before moving on to other aspects of the interior. The next step is to replace the carpet after you have taken care of the floor. But first, we propose putting in under-carpet cushioning, which will help lessen noise and heat in the cabin.

Then install the new carpet, trimming it carefully and precisely to suit the car’s floor properly. For ground-in dust, you can use a fabric cleaning or stain remover; then, place them in the washing machine in most situations.

3. Next comes vacuuming car seats:

Here come vacuuming car seats. For that, you can wipe any fabric or leather areas of your seats with a Permagard Edgeless Microfiber cloth which is soft sewn, easily reusable, and the fun part does not leave scratches on the paint surface, perfect for car interior protection.

To avoid damaging the material, be gentle. If dirt is buried in the vinyl, use a towel to clean. It can reach deep into the texture of the leather surface and remove any dirt that has become trapped.

4. Continue with cleaning windows and vents:

Is there dust between the AC vents? Don’t worry, we have tips for this too. Any dirt or dust will be vacuumed up rather than resting elsewhere in the car if you hold the vacuum hose against the vent. Do your car’s windows reflect the scenes of a bug massacre? Is there dirt, trash, squirrel faeces, and ash from a nearby forest fire plastered on them? Can you see through them to find your way down the road? No, I guess!

Dirty windows are not only unattractive, but they can also be unsafe. It’s true that seeing the road ahead, to the side, and behind you is vital to your safety. Caked or dusty glass can also damage the cooling and heating of your car’s interior.

For it, you have to soak Permagard’s microfiber cloth with water and car window soap to clean the windows down until no dirt or particles are visible. Then by rinsing them with fresh water, you can use a second microfiber towel to pat dry.

5. Then remove all those stinky stains:

Permagard’s microfiber towel would serve for removing stinky stains from your car. Some people buy wet wipes designed for a car’s interior, which also work well. Remove anything that may have been left on the dash, especially tiny items that may have wrapped against the windshield.

After you have wiped clean all the dust, condition, and polished the hard plastic on your dashboard, seats, and cup holders with olive oil. You can use the microfiber towel to apply a drop to the surface and gently rub it in small circles.

6. Lastly, remove pet hairs:

Pets are considered family members, and many of us would never leave the house without our four-legged buddies. However, there is one significant disadvantage to carrying your dog anywhere: pet hair. They degrade the appearance and feel of your car’s interior, as well as leaving an unpleasant doggy odour behind.

If you have a vacuum cleaner that you can use in your vehicle, that is the best option. Try this for a creative way to remove pet hair from your car.

Take a pair of rubber gloves from beneath the sink, soak them with a little water, and run them over the carpet. The hairs should stick to the gloves and leave the carpets looking cleaner. Hooray, your job is done.

Conclusion

Although classic car rejuvenation can be a stressful, time-consuming, and pricey task, it is an essential step in maintaining the car’s overall character. We have the perfect combo for your job, Parmagard’s premium DIY car care kit, which will work like magic and includes all products that you would require.

When doing a DIY project like this, the most important thing to remember is that there’s no need to rush and for that. Instead, take your time and finish each task at a speed that is comfortable for you and does not place a significant burden on your household budget while using original parts and materials that as near as possible replicate the car’s original interior look and feel.

If you are thinking why not bring a new car with newly tinted windows in India, there is hardly anyone to say anything. But did you know that India bans tinted window cars? Yes, you heard that right! While window tinting involves applying a thin laminate film to the glass of the vehicle, the reasons why people choose to tint can vary. These purposes may include security or privacy, exterior protection from the UV rays, or cutting down on sun’s glare.

Of course, there are purely aesthetic reasons to apply window tint. But, it is important to first find out if your state or country does allow it. In this blog, we will discuss why window tinting was banned in India besides several other things associated with it.

The Ban: When and why?

In the year 2012, India’s Supreme Court put a ban on the usage of tints and sun films on car windows. This ban was out of concern for passengers’ safety following too many criminal accidents that took place in the moving vehicles. According to the Supreme Court’s mandate, the visual limit for light transmission for rear and front windshields was set to 50% and 70% for the vehicles’ side windows.

Some manufacturers did offer vehicles with tinted windows from the factory but because of the hot climate there were no legal alternatives.

Before 2012, having tinted glasses was legal. But, as India noticed a steep rise in the crime graph, the ban came as a boon. You must be wondering why? Well, many molestation and rape cases were being committed in the so-called “modified” vehicles with tinted glass.

Thus to stop that, the RTO came with a new rule where window tinting were banned. Those that flouted and still went ahead with the window films were heavily penalized.

What are the conditions applied if there is a film?

As per a recent clarification on the Supreme Court’s judgement, the use of any VLT or black films upon windscreens or safety glasses of vehicles throughout India is strictly prohibited; but there are some conditions.

RULE 100

A motor vehicle’s rear window or windscreen glass must be maintained in a condition where the VLT is not less than seventy percent. If you are putting the film on side windows then light’s visual transmission must not be less than 50 percent, conforming to the Indian Standards.

This rule applies to the windshields’ safety glasses as well as the side windows. Use of any material or films on side windows or windscreen is banned. You must know the VLT of the safety glass without any extra film pasted upon it. And if pasted, the material must conform to the manufacturing specifications.

car window tinting

Soaring temperatures bring back the sun films

Rising mercury levels every year cause a high demand for black tinted glass and sun films. But, if your windows maintain the condition of visual transmission light, then you can go for it. At all times, make sure that the restricted vision does not go beyond the permissible limit.

Why the exception of the rule for the VVIPs?

If all of you are wondering as to why the consulate cars, politicians and VIPs roam around in dark glasses, then you must know a few things first. Firstly, the Supreme Court has stated that while no specific laws exist to exempt people from using tints for security purposes; yet it is solely the police’s and Home Ministry’s responsibility to grant such an absolution.

The cases of people who have been provided with Z+ and Z level security categories can use external Automotive window films.

Conclusion

Hope you understood India’s stand on tinting and sun films. If you are considering going for it still, then we would suggest you get acquainted with the laws of the land. And, if you can conform to the VLT limits as laid by the state, then get hold of an experienced professional. You can call in Permagard’s professionals to get your windows tinted as that will save your time and help you avoid citation. Now, you are aware of the basics, thus the choice to tint or not to tint is completely your call. We hope you liked our blog and if there is anything you would want us to add, please comment down below.

Have you ever noticed a spider web-like structure on a car standing in the sun? These are nothing but circular-shaped scratches that occur due to incorrect washing methods. Many people wash and detail cars with the old circular wax on and off technique. It is where the marks on the car come from.

It is primarily impossible not to mildly scratch the car’s surface during a wash. The circular movements cause scratches in the paint. Indeed, car scratches are every car owner and detailer’s worst fear.

You will find scratches everywhere, and the harder you try to remove them, the more they are left. On observing closely, the scratches reveal deep gaps that penetrate through car paint’s various layers.

When light hits a scratch, all it does is bounces all around and reflects at a different angle than the surrounding smooth surface. The marks look ugly and damage the paint on leaving untreated. Here comes the importance of paint correction.

Here is a blog that will give detailed insights on paint correction.

What is paint correction?

Paint correction is the process that involves restoring and rejuvenating the car’s paintwork. It includes eliminating the surface’s imperfections that make it dull, hazy, or oxidized by reflecting light off it in several directions.

The reasons for these mainly include fine scratches, swirl marks, bird dropping etching, acid rain etching, and random isolated deep scratches.

A car is treated with touch-up paint, multi-stage polishing, refinishing, and coating. The corrective process involves removing a small amount of clear paint or coat from the car’s surface using abrasive polishes. These are applied with polishing machines to level out the surface.

Do you know that a car that looks well taken care of will look muddled because of ‘orange peel’? It occurs when a paint’s finish is similar to the texture of an orange. It occurs due to lack of finishing procedures, improper paint, and machine spray.

Does paint correction remove car coating?

Yes. The polishing process involves a gritty substance known as a cutting compound. On activating the electric polisher, the liquid polish or paste is spread evenly on the car’s painted surface. It causes friction that cuts through the paint’s clear coat.

The polishers are made in multiple grit levels to fill either a scratch or remove the clear coat until the scratch is removed. If you cut the clear coat thin, then it will be challenging for the protective coating to bond with the car’s surface.

Is car paint correction worth it?

If you care about your car’s longevity and appearance, then having paint protection is worth it. It is the best way to make the car stand out in the crowd. Paint correction is the right way of making your car’s paint incredible. However, you should do the paint correction only to the level that you can maintain.

Did you know that powerful UV rays beat down the clear coat on a car standing outside in the sun, leading to oxidation? Here, paint correction becomes technical, and a professional detailer can bring optimal results.

How long does paint correction take?

how long does paint correction take

Paint correction involves 5-30 hours based on the process that you adopt. It is not a fast or straightforward procedure to accomplish. It mainly involves four steps.

Do you know what happens when the car paint’s clear coat is damaged? It will take lesser time for the debris and dirt to penetrate the car’s surface and damage the pigmented basecoat.

Here are some paint correction tips

paint correction tips
  • Making use of a high quantity of the product will not ensure better results. The only thing that will give you the desired results is spreading the product on the car surface everywhere.
  • Try to use only that much product that is either needed or instructed on the label. Generally, 3-5 dots of polish are enough for one section.
  • Do not use full speed on the polisher. Increasing the speed will raise the chance of burning the paint, especially on using the rotary polisher.
  • Try not to rush and go slowly. Whenever you rush, you are not giving the polisher enough time for correcting the paint defects. Go slow so that polish and pad will get enough time to remove imperfections, cut the paint, and bring back the original shine and gloss.
  • Do not put immense pressure on the polisher. Do not assume that by putting more pressure, the job will get done in lesser time. Instead, it will damage the paint. Choose suitable pads and polishes to fix paint imperfections.
  • Ensure using finishing polish after compounding. If you do not use an all-in-one product that polishes and compounds, then it is good to use a finishing polish after compounding. It will give the paint a glossy finish.

Conclusion

So, synthetic car paint sealants and wax have been the traditional methods for protecting the car’s paint. Modern technology has introduced improved methods like car paint correction that involves saving the paint from swirls and scratches. Investing appropriate time and money will help you get a proper car paint correction.

Beware, car owners! Do you know that many chemicals and products can damage your car’s paint permanently?  As a car owner, you must know what can damage it, especially when parked outside without garage shade to ensure car paint protection.

All car owners do not have the pleasure of having a garage. Unfortunately, accidents and poor parking techniques that cause dings and chips are not the only factors that destroy the paint. From bird droppings to shoe polish, many things damage the car paint.

So, what damages the paint of a car parked outside? And how can you protect a car without a garage? This blog will give you an insight into these aspects.

What damages paint of a car parked outside?

Brake Fluid

According to experts, all brake fluid types are not harmful to the car’s surface. However, it is good if you are cautious while handling fluids that are not silicon-based. The older types of brake fluid are caustic and act like paint thinner and peel the outer layer.

Do you know that silicon brake fluid is has a high boiling point? It is not sensitive to absorbing moisture and does not damage the car paint.

Bird droppings

Every car owner is bothered by bird droppings one time or another. It is unavoidable. Droppings can sometimes leave behind permanent damage to the car paint. Thanks to the acidic content of the digestive bile they contain.

The sun hardens the droppings and damages the paint. Similarly, bug guts are highly acidic. Initially, insects will not damage the car paint, but if left on the car for a long time, can cause harm.

Smog and road grime

The ineffective combustion of the carbon-based materials that fuel the engines is the most prominent pollutant. The unburned particulate matter damages the clear coat in the worst manner.

Do you know that smog is a carcinogen-rich nuisance that damages your car? However, tarballs, corrosive chemicals, and liquids leaking from the car are bad for the car’s paint.

UV light

Sun’s rays generate high levels of light and heat along with radiation. The radiation causes deterioration of the clear coat over time.

Likewise, acid rain damages the car paint when it accumulates on the car’s exterior. The acidic material that remains after evaporation of water eats away the paint and that is hard to reverse.

Tree sap

Tree sap is a natural element that eats away at the car paint. It causes discoloration and staining over time. The process accelerates if it is hot in the area of car parking.

Coffee and soda

Coffee and soda have high acidic levels that can damage the car’s paint. Likewise, shoe polish stains the car’s surface and is quite challenging to remove. And yes! Using dirty rags and towels for car exterior protection also harms the paint. It can leave scratches on the car.

How to prevent damage to car paint without a garage?

Keeping a car under a garage protects the car. But you have to find other ways to prevent the car from damage if you do not have a garage. Here are the tips.

  • Portable carport – There are plenty of portable tarps, tents, and other coverings available to keep the car under a cover. It will protect the car from UV rays and other natural elements significantly.
  • Sunshades – Sunshades reflect sunlight, keeping the interior cool and comfortable.
  • Wash regularly- Washing the car regularly is one of the convenient ways to protect the car paint. You can use a mild detergent and a microfiber drying towel to absorb water on the surface.
  • Wipe off immediately – You need to wipe off the acidic substances like coffee or soda, tree sap, and bird droppings immediately when they come in contact with the car paint. Wiping it off will not let the substance dry and settle on the exterior preventing damage.
  • Be mindful of parking – Try to avoid parking under trees that can drop leaves, debris, and sticks on the car and damage the paint.
  • Paint protection film (PPF) – A car’s PPF is a protective layer over the car’s paint. It ensures car paint protection from pollution, UV rays, dirt, mud, and changing seasons.
  • Timely maintenance – Do not skip the car’s maintenance. It is recommended to go for a car repair either every 6 months or 5000 miles or whichever comes first. Time degrades lubricants, tires, hoses, and gaskets.

Tires lose air pressure of up to 2 pounds a month. For every 10 degrees drop in temperature, a tire can lose approximately 1 pound of pressure.

Permagard’s paint protection film

  • Permagard has a patented paint protection solution that uses Reactive Polymer Technology.
  • This car exterior coating utilizes a corrosion protection mechanism that is hydrophobic.
  • It protects the car paint from airborne pollutants, salts, scratches, dirt, and rust. It gives long-term protection to the car in harsh environments.
  • The coating has an eco-friendly formula. It does not harm the people who come in contact with the coating and the environment.

Conclusion

Do not worry if it is not feasible for you to keep your car in a garage. Taking good care and maintaining it properly will protect the paint from wearing off. Other than this, the alternatives mentioned above are cost-effective ways to prevent car paint damage in the long term.

Every car owner wants their car to look stunning all the time? Right? Until now, you might have tried the basic cleaning stuff like monthly waxing and daily washing to get rid of stains, marks, dirt, scratches, and whatnot.

So, how to resolve the problem? You need to have a solution that can make your car look fantastic with little  maintenance. You need a product that can save your car from oxidation and chemical menace; something that protects from environmental hazards and makes car washing easier.

Good news! There is a product that can add significant value to the car. It is ceramic coating. But before making a final buying decision, let us read some facts about ceramic coating. The blog will give you detailed insights into it.

What is ceramic car coating?

A ceramic coating comes in liquid polymer form and is applied to the car’s exterior. The coating creates a semi-permanent and permanent bond with the car’s factory paint, creating a protective layer. The paint does not wash away and not require application repeatedly every few months.

It is applied in a liquid form and creates a hard layer on top of the paint. Ceramic car coating adds additional protection to the car’s exterior and makes it look new. It achieves the result by making the car easier to clean and more resilient.

Do you know what ceramic coating is composed of? It consists of silicon dioxide (SiO2 or silica). Some brands also contain titanium dioxide (TiO2, titania) that acts as an additional hardening agent.

Advantages of ceramic coating for car

Protects from UV damage:

The paint of a car that is exposed to the sun for regular periods will begin to oxidize and either fades or starts appearing dull. The ceramic coating protects the car’s paint from UV rays and reduces the oxidization amount.

Protects from chemical stains:

Chemical staining from naturally acidic contaminants damages the car’s paint. The chemical-resistant surface that ceramic coating creates keep some contaminants from bonding with the car’s paint. As a result, the car will be more resistant to etching and staining. You need to remove the contaminant timely.

Advantage of ceramic car coating

Eases cleaning:

A significant feature of ceramic coating is that it is hydrophobic. It means that it repels water. Water will drip on the car’s surface and slide off easily due to the coating. Mud and grime will not bond quickly with the car’s paint.  Washing the car will remove the contaminants easily.

Enhances gloss:

Another advantage of ceramic coating is that it gives the car a glossy look that brings the best out of the original paint. It makes the car spotless and ageless.

Improves durability:

A ceramic car coating bonds with the car paint’s molecular structure. It means that it works harder to protect the surface than ordinary paint. Thus, it lasts longer and increases the car’s durability.

Do you know the industry trends of ceramic coating? The market size of ceramic coating was around USD 9.3 billion in 2019. It is expected to show a growth rate of approximately 8.1% from 2020-2026.

Disadvantages of ceramic car coating

Every product comes with some drawbacks. Some disadvantages of ceramic car coating are listed below –

Disadvantage of ceramic car coating

No protection from swirl marks:

Ceramic car coating does not ensure complete safety of the car from threats like scratches, rock chips, and swirl marks. It retains some features of the paint despite having blending properties.

Less safety from water spotting:

Ceramic coating on the paint spills the water and it slide off the car surface to some extent. However, the ceramic coat still contains some soluble particles and natural minerals. These stay on the surface after water gets evaporated.

Needs washing:

Yes, ceramic car coating gives the car a new look with minimal maintenance. But that does not mean that you do not have to wash the car regularly. Even with ceramic coating, you will have to wash the car regularly to maintain its looks.

Do you know when to use ceramic coating? The ceramic coating should be applied after you wash the car thoroughly. Ensure not to leave any dirt, contaminants, and oily films on the car as the coating will not seal properly.

Ceramic car coating cost

A professional car coating cost based on the package that you select. The cost goes up as you increase the number of services or car coating quality. It is better to get the ceramic coating done by trained professionals. The process usually takes 1-5 days, based on the paint’s original condition.

Do you know the impact of improper application of ceramic coating on your car? It can leave spots, streaks, horrible reflections, and hazing. So, be careful if you DIY ceramic coating on the car.

Thus, ceramic car coating is worth your money. It has multiple benefits that add value to the car. It makes car cleaning and maintenance less tedious.

Permagard paint protection

  • Permagard’s paint protection film uses advanced Reactive Polymer Technology.
  • It safeguards the car’s exterior from airborne pollutants, UV rays, scratches, dirt, and rust.
  • The coating is hydrophobic, having a corrosion protection mechanism.
  • It costs less than ceramic coating and lasts longer.
  • Permagard’s coatings contain polar amines having a positive charge. These attract negatively charged substrates that are found in paints.

The appearance of your car or you taking care of your vehicle is not vanity by any means. It is, in fact, smart ownership of your vehicle. A professional detailer can easily come to you and charge anywhere around 100-500 dollars for car detailing. Or you can choose to save some dough by doing it yourself, swiping their secrets.

Today, we are going to help you do just that. After all, the internet freely provides information, DIYs, and tips. We are going to share all of those tricks of the trade that were available with the professionals, all this while. This very moment, all of those tricks are going to be all yours. So here we go.

Detailing your own ride can call for a bit of money gathering but that is nothing close to what a detailer charges. Trust us when we say that you may have most of the ideal stuff lying in your garage already. However, you may have to shell out anything close to say 30 or 50 dollars, depending on how immense you want the detailing to be.

Our tips are satisfying and accessible to every skill level. These top secrets will not just deliver professional results but make detailing easier and more successful.

1. Use two buckets

Have you ever heard of the two-bucket washing system? We bet not! Well, that’s what we are here for. This method involves the use of two buckets to wash your car. It is done in such a manner that there are minimal scratches and swirls to the auto body.

car cleaning techniques

1 BUCKET WILL WASH, 1 BUCKET WILL RINSE

Thus, one bucket will contain your shampoo solution and the other one simply contains plain water to rinse the wash mitt.

WASHING TOOLS YOU NEED:

Two buckets

Get hold of a plastering bucket. Extra points if you get two buckets of different stickers/colors. Different colored buckets will help you distinguish between the one that has the wash solution and the other where you will dunk the mitt.

Washing mitt

We are dead against a sponge, so use a thickly piled washing mitt that pulls away the dirt from your paintwork.

Car shampoo

For the cleaning needs of your vehicle, get a dedicated shampoo.

Pro tip: Permagard’s pH neutral shampoo is a gentle and rich gloss enhancing shampoo that leaves your car with a sparkling glow after a wash. It is free of silicone and phosphates and follows a non-abrasive method to remove grime and dirt stuck on a car surface.

Water

You need water for a thorough wash.

Grit Guards

Ensure you get grit guards that fit the buckets well.

Follow the diagram below to know the directions for a wash.

2. Rinse before washing

Before you begin the second phase of exterior car detailing, you have to wash off the grit and dirt. We recommend parking your car near a water source, or having a long hose that you can connect your pressure washer to the hi-pressure jet will blast the dirt off.

However, be careful as powerful washers damage seals and paintwork. Two very useful products that worked well for us – a traffic film remover and snow foam.

rinse before washing

These two cover your vehicle in suds and work by loosening off the grime. You just have to leave them to do their work for a few minutes, then with a pressure washer, you can blast it all.

Pro tip: Work from your car’s roof downwards. Do not miss the bumpers, door sills, and undersides.

Follow the method below for efficient rinsing of your car:

3. Use a microfiber cloth

Do you use regular towels to clean grime during exterior car cleaning? We say, stop right away! That is because microfiber towels are the need of the hour. With a microfiber mitt, the grit will fall out whenever you rinse it. A sponge, on the other hand, makes the grit stay put. Grit embeds on a sponge and when you wash a sponge filled with grit, it functions as a sandpaper.

Thus, if you do not intend to harm the finish of your car, you must use a dry microfiber towel that collects leftover particles. To remove grit, all you need to do is rinse your towel.

microfiber car cleaning cloth

Here is how microfiber towels help you do that.

Clean grime

Regular towels are cotton towels that spread dirt around whenever you wipe them across your car. The microfiber towels contain “micro” fibers that are tiny enough to lift up the grime. These cloths have four times more surface area compared to the same size cotton cloth.

Did you know? Regular mops remove only thirty percent of the dirt, whereas mops made of microfiber material remove up to ninety-nine percent of dirt and grime.

Not-Abrasive

Microfiber towels are not at all abrasive, thus, you can use them on your vehicle’s delicate parts. The tiny fibers in the towels are approximately 1/100th diameter of our hair. The blend of fabrics along with the super tiny size of fibers make them non-abrasive and extremely soft.

Things to know: Not only are the towels non-abrasive but they eliminate the chances of any kind of debris scratching your car surface whenever they are wiped across your vehicle.

Are ultra absorbent

Speaking of being extremely absorbent, we can bet that you won’t find anything other than a microfiber towel. The tiny fibers in the mop remove liquid from the surface of the car by sucking up moisture.

Did you know? Microfiber cloth are a boon for drying your vehicle as they do not leave any water marks. Also, they can absorb crazy amounts of liquid (eight times its weight in water). They also dry quickly, hence prohibiting any sort of bacterial growth that can make your cloth unsanitary.

Pro tip: Use Permagard’s edgeless microfiber cloth that is the most effective, and soft reusable tool available in the market. These cloths are super absorbent and do not leave any lint or streak behind.

Here is why you should use it:

4. Remove minor scratches before polishing

Does discovering a nasty scratch all of a sudden feel disheartening? Especially when the scar is on your sparkling new car paint? Of course, and we feel you. But then, unwanted scratches are a reality and are inevitable. However, we have good news for you because a scratch remover can restore the car’s finish like a dream.

Polishing may increase the shine but scratches? What do we do about them? We use a scratch remover that will give the finish a whole new look. With the right product and little effort, you can bid goodbye to blemishes, watermarks, scuffs, swirls, and scratches.

We know that removing scratches is not an easy job at all but it takes very little time. Plus, would you want to shell out 500 dollars for professional removal of scratches? Of course not! Some scratches may require professional exterior car detailing but you can get rid of most scratches.

And trust us when we say that YOU NEED NOT BE AN EXPERT!

5. Lubricate door seals

One of the most under-maintained and under-used parts of most vehicles have to be the doors. However, lubricating the door hinges and seals forms a part of your regular car care regimen. To maintain the car and for proper car detailing, you need to lubricate well. Perfect lubrication is critical to the effectiveness and longevity of the car.

Thing to know:  A lock de-icer that you can find in gas stations or any automobile parts store works as the best lubricant. Do not use a spray grease like lithium or graphite powder because both of these can be extremely sticky and thick during the cold weather.

Here is what you can do:

6. Use a dual action polisher

The most user-friendly option for professionals and beginners that will help you deliver incredible results has to be the dual action polishers. For an ideal car detailing job, you need these polishers that help in improving the luster and texture of automotive paint with virtually no risks.

The polisher’s head motion removes swirls and improves the appearance of the scratches that your vehicle may have. But, make sure you are using the one that produces enough heat to cut intensely into the paint.

We recommend consulting a professional and not attempting to get rid of the deep scratches that could remove a lot of the clear coat.

7. Clean interiors

Caring for a vehicle’s interior is just as important as caring for the exterior. Remember, surface cleaning is not enough. Two to four times a year, you must indulge in interior car detailing as well just to keep your car looking best.

The interior car cleaning can include very simple tasks like vacuuming the carpets, floor mats, and consoles. Thus, this means you will clean a vehicle’s inner parts that include natural fibers, vinyl, plastics, leather, and carbon fiber plastics.

interior car detailing

Here is the list of parts that need a holistic cleaning:

Front Panel: This area is the one we see most. Use a potent spray-on cleaner that gets rid of the stains and elbow grease and prevents mildew or mold growth.

Floor mats: Remove the floor mats and shake off dirt vigorously. Some mats can trap water, given their deep indentations. Thus, clean with a stiff brush by loosening the grime and wash the dirt using a strong water jet. Make sure you air-dry fully before placing them.

Door panels: Door panels have open compartments and cup holders. They can be a car’s filthiest areas, thus, use a chemical cleaner to remove the dirt and grime.

Air vents: The grills of air vents are challenging to clean. They can be very tedious, all thanks to the multiple parts. Using a long but soft bristle brush and compressed air can get rid of the grime stored in the dirty vents.

Console: The buttons and controls in your vehicle can be a complete nightmare. Cleaning every crevice and crack can irritate you. Thus, use the thinnest cloth and wrap it around a flat-head screwdriver’s head. This trick can clean many controls and buttons.

Dashboard: One of the most challenging parts to clean has to be the dashboard of your car. We recommend vacuuming all the dust before you spray any cleaning product.

Leather: For keeping leather clean and to make it keep looking new, you must use a great leather cleaning product that you can apply to a towel. Clean the material and dry it well to keep it supple.

8. Use a clay bar

For a thorough car cleaning, there is nothing quite like a clay bar. This engineered mixture of resin helps to remove pollutants and contaminants from the car’s painted surface, metal, and fiberglass.

We recommend using the bar two times a year. You will be amazed at how this bar will get rid of things like industrial fallout, brake dust, and rail dust. Clay detailing is 100 percent non-abrasive and safe.

Things to know:  Always spray a detailer spray or lubricant before you begin claying. That is because lubrication helps to stop the loose debris from tainting your car.

9. Bird droppings are the enemy

Did you know that bird poop destroys car paint? Yes! During the summertime when you keep your cars out in the sun, birds undoubtedly poop. No, we do not have a problem with the birds pooping but bird excrement has acid. This acid and the sun work like real culprits because the minute the sun hardens the poop, paint expands.

The result? Your beautifully painted car gets ruined by the uric acid present in the bird droppings. The car metal heats up during the day, causing the paint to expand and the molecules to open up just for the acid to get trapped inside the paint.

The best action is to take a mild soap and some water to remove the poop right away. Do not keep it as is, and wait for the poop to harden.

10. Avoid streaky glass

The most important part of car detailing has to be cleaning the car windows. But, have you ever noticed unsightly streaks right after you are done washing? That may be because the cleaning agents from the cleaning solution got dried on the surface.

We recommend using a microfiber towel for a streak-free cleaning. The tight weave that these towels have is excellent for the glass surfaces and have tremendous scrubbing ability.

Pro tip:  Get hold of a microfiber cloth from Permagard, spray a window cleaning solution, and wipe the windows clean.  That is because Permagard’s microfiber towel can be safely used on scratch-sensitive paints and reused multiple times. The best part? You may not even require any chemicals for cleaning. Thus, bid adieu to streaks, grime, and dirt.

Are you looking for ways to protect your car against bird droppings, scratches and what not? Well, you are in the right place then because today we will share some of the best tips on how to safeguard your car and make it shine like a new penny.

We as car owners always expect normal wear and tear of the car. In fact, some of us completely ignore the fact that a car’s highest depreciation rate is in its initial 2 years of driving it. Thus, it is the depreciation cost and damage that affect a car’s resale value.

But, why fear when we are all here? Here are some solid tips to car’s exterior protection against unforeseen damages.

1. Use a car cover

Mind you, not all blessings come from the sky. Thus, you have to be extra careful against animal excrement and bird droppings. We recommend using a cover for your car because the longer these corrosive substances stay on the paint, the greater the scarring is.

Did you know? Sticky films that cover cars parked beneath the lime trees during spring are equally damaging. This phenomenon is called honeydew. It sounds sweet, but the aphids’ excrement can make a driver bitter. They secrete sugar that is extremely sticky having sucked sap from the lime leaves. If the honeydew falls on the film then it can burn if exposed to direct sunlight.

A cover for your car is a very small investment in terms of both time and money. We say that because it also keeps insects away from trying to make a nest in the tailpipe beneath the hood. Also, you do not have to shell out a lot of money to buy one.

If animals try to get on or into your vehicle then a car cover will protect the hood and roof from scratches.

Thing to know: Cats love getting on top of cars and their tiny claws can damage the paint job. Squirrels and various other animals can also do the same by jumping on your car’s hood.

Finally, with your car covered, you can stop the people from damaging your car. For example, no one will be able to scratch your car with keys while they are walking along the side.

2. Wash car thoroughly

The most important question that strikes our minds is how often the car must be washed. While for some car washing may be a ritual but for most unless they notice dirt caked on, they don’t think of a wash. But, no matter which category you fall under, washing the car is crucial.

Rain, dirt, mud, or even salt that is sprinkled on snowy roads can damage your car paint. Thus, you have to get your car washed from time to time.

Did you know? A car wash can actually enhance the longevity of your car. Wondering how? When you get your car washed with water and soap, the impurities get brushed away not just from the vehicle’s body but various other parts. Your engine is free of dirt and debris, besides the tires, mirrors, and windows. This means you can safely go on limitless rides knowing that the side mirrors, tires, windshield, and rear windows are spotless.

We hope you are not someone who warms up to the feeling of shutting a truck and seeing dirt on your hands. Thus, consider making a small investment in the form of a bi-weekly or weekly car wash so that your car appears sparkling clean.

3. Dry the car

To make the most of a deep clean and to get blinded by the perfect sparkle of your car, you must air dry the car. This step is not as useless as most people may think it to be.

microfiber cloth

The principal reason we suggest air drying your car is because of the residue that water can leave behind. Water used for car washes has natural minerals that do not evaporate when you air dry. The liquid may disappear but there are spots and streaks that stay behind, making your car look bad.

If you have a dark-colour car, you probably understand what we are trying to say. When your car is out and about in the sun, all the imperfections get highlighted.

Did you know? Some water compounds that are left behind after air drying can degrade your car paint over a period of time. No, you will not readily notice damage but air drying could leave minerals and calcium. Result? Your vehicle keeps on getting ruined.

PRO TIP: As soon as the car has undergone washing, spend a few minutes drying it. Use a squeaky clean chamois or microfiber cloth from Permagard. The non-abrasive soft material traps other particles, grime, and dirt.

Do you desire to know a little more about this reusable and effective tool from Permagard? Have a look at the figure below.

4. Wax the car

You may wash your car from time to time but do you ever wax it at all? If not, it may be because you are not aware of the benefits of waxing. But, we are here to tell you the ultimate difference between an unwaxed car and a waxed one.

  • Paint protection

To protect the auto body paint from destructive forces like salt, oxidation, acid rain, sunlight, and other contaminants, waxing is necessary. All of these problems can destroy your paint and you will have to keep repainting to make it look like new.

A clear wax coat acts as a barrier of protection and will take on any kind of damage. So, you can bid goodbye to paint chips or scratches.

  • Fills in tiny scratches

We are not saying that waxing guarantees taking down or vanishing all scratches. But, it does fill scratches. So before any specialist comes up to fix things, we recommend giving waxing a sure shot try.

  • Makes the car shine

If you have seen your car after a mere wash, you need to see it after a wax sesh. Waxing takes your car’s shine to a whole new level. You may just bag an award for the glossiest car in your locality.

Did you know? Waxing also helps with a car wash! Wax application on the car’s surface means you make it challenging for debris, insects, tree sap, or dirt to stick to your car.
